 A Swine Flu Update

 Dear District Family:

We have no H1N1 (swine flu) cases in the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District at this time.  We continue to actively monitor the situation and will take whatever steps are appropriate to protect the health and welfare of our campus communities – students, faculty, staff and visitors – and will provide information to you on a regular basis.

Our Pandemic Flu Response Team is on alert; we are in regular contact with the County Health Department to monitor any suspected cases; and our emergency action plan is in place to take immediate action should that become necessary. For now, I ask that you keep following this good everyday advice to protect you and those around you from getting sick:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it, and then wash your hands.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.

  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

  • If you get sick with influenza, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.

The district web site will continue to post information as it becomes available.  Other resources include our health offices at Grossmont College and Cuyamaca College, the County of San Diego swine flu information site http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/Portal/News/swine_flu_cdc_sd.html  and the San Diego County Swine Flu Hotline at (858) 715-2250.

 Best wishes for staying healthy.

 Sincerely,

 Cindy L Miles
