Purpose of the Negotiation Session Updates - Your union
representatives are committed to GCCCD employees and we appreciate that
these union representatives are trying to get the best for you. We
don't always agree on issues, but we should strive to listen to each
other. Some leaders who do not provide full disclosure as to the
what, why, when, and how, of each negotiation session may be
advancing their own standing at the cost of employees not receiving
their annual COLA within a reasonable time frame. We believe there
is a better way.
All employees deserve
representation and we respect the union
leaders' desire for tough negotiations. However, we encourage them to also
have open and honest communication with the administration and with
their constituents. Several new pages have been added to the District
Web site as one of the administration's contributions to present full
disclosure of negotiations information. These Web pages will be updated after each negotiation
session. To see an overview of the process
click here or use the menu at the
left. It is not the intent, nor an attempt, by the
administration to negotiate with any employee individually, nor is this
an attempt to undermine your union leadership.
The administration understands that labor negotiations
generate tough questions from both sides; therefore the administration wants to
provide real answers.
We are confident the Web links to the most current information will help
to accomplish this. Furthermore,
the administration welcomes questions relating to negotiations from the chief union
negotiator, and will post the questions and answers on the new Web pages. We are always ready to
sit at the table with our union partners today to invest in a solution that is
fair to all GCCCD employees and fair to the organization as a whole. Open and honest
communication will get us faster to that solution. |
