R. A. D. (Rape Aggression Defense) Program

The R. A. D. Rape Aggression Defense Program is a system designed to teaching women defensive concepts and techniques against various types of assault. The course involves utilizing easy, effective and proven self-defense and martial arts tactics. It is designed as a realistic defense that would provide a woman with knowledge to make an educated decision regarding resistance to a physical threat.

The course is not a martial arts program. It emphasizes self-awareness, prevention, risk-reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on personal defense training.

Ride Along / Walk Along Program

The Ride-Along / Walk-Along program through the District Police Department is a Community Oriented Policing (COP) format designed to educate the College Community about the day-to-day activity within the District Police Department.

It is a partnership with the College Community where a member of the community would be able to “ride” along with a District Police Officer in a Police vehicle while patrolling the campus, responding to radio calls or conducting a vehicle traffic stop. The community member may also “walk” along with a Police Officer while patrolling the interior of the campus on foot.

This would provide the community member the opportunity to ask the officers questions regarding their duties, capabilities and authority or just ask the officer any police related questions that the member may have.

Anyone interested in participating in this program may contact the District Police Department by calling (619) 644-7654 or dialing extension 7654 from any District telephone.

Shop with a Cop (SWAC)

Shop With A Cop (SWAC) is an organization dedicated to creating and providing a wonderful holiday experience for 300 disadvantaged children throughout the San Diego area. Police Officers and Deputies from Local, State and Federal agencies participate in interacting with the children in a positive holiday setting.

During the 2002 Holidays, the SWAC organization, through several events throughout the year 2002, was able to raise $30,000 to provide $100 of shopping money to each child at the Sports Arena TARGET store.

The fun started at the San Diego Sea World where children and their “Cop” partners enjoy “brunch” and entertainment. The children then took part with a parade of Police vehicles that started from Sea World and on to the Sports Arena TARGET store.

Each child was able to have fun going through the store, looking for their favorite toys. With the Holidays in mind, some thoughtful children even pick out toys for their brothers and sisters.

District Police Officers are currently active in the SWAC program to continually provide Community Service to the children of San Diego County.

Annual Toy and Teddy Bear Drive Program

For several years now, during the Holiday Seasons, the District Police Department has been involved with the spearheading of the Annual Holiday Toy and Teddy Bear Drive.

The program, in coordination with the Volunteers of America for East County Kids organization, was designed to provide comfort and assistance to families with children who are heavily burdened and would not be able to celebrate the holidays in a very merry way.

All (New) Toys and Teddy Bears are collected at the District Police offices on both Grossmont and Cuyamaca campuses.

Every year, with everyone’s generosity, we try to continue in making a difference in a child’s life.

Just remember:

There is no greater joy than to see a smile on a child’s face during the holiday season.

For any questions or more information regarding the Annual Toy and Teddy Bear Drive, please contact Kim Danielson by e-mail or by calling the District Police office at (619) 644-7654.
