To All Former Grossmont-Cuyamaca
Colleagues:
Earlier this year 27 retired faculty and friends met for a
luncheon meeting at Grossmont College. It was the first
activity of the newly formed retirees "social club." Drs. Walker
and Jones provided the welcome and expressed the ad-
ministration's desire to support an active retiree group. This
was the first of special events that may be of interest to you as
a valued member of the Grossmont and Cuyamaca faculty and
staff retirement corps.
The Board has approved for all retirees some very special
benefits that can be utilized with a special "gold card" which is
being printed at the present time. You will receive yours soon.
This card will make it possible for retirees to obtain the
following privileges if they so desire.
1. Free staff parking privileges, library card, athletic pass.
2. Tuition waivers for retirees and their spouses.
3. Paid membership in the Grossmont and Cuyamaca
Retirees Association.
4. Discounted travel service (as part of the "Retiree Club"
membership).
5. Discounted non-litigious attorney service (wills, trust,
powers of attorney, legal documents).
6. Membership in the District Health Club (included use of
athletic facilities on either campus).
7. Discounts for on-campus and ECPAC theater, concerts,
lectures, seminars and similar events.
8. Bookstore discounts on both campuses.
9. Invitations to retirement-oriented activities.
10. 0ngoing district communication (College newspaper,
notices of plays, luncheons and special events).
11. Inclusion in the speakers bureau, if desired.
12. Eligibility for committee membership, if desired.
13. Professor Emeritus status for Certificated retirees who
qualify at the "professorial level" and are approved by the
Academic Senate and Governing Board.
The Emeritus Program, including conditions required for
appointment as well as a short petition for Emeritus Status, are
included in this mailing.
Ideas for...
GOLDEN GRIFFIN/SILVER COYOTE CLUB
Travel Club
Our "PASSPORT" group will hold regular meetings to share
information about all aspects of travel. It will be the means for
getting some very special deals that can save money, arrange
upgrades, or both. We'll explore domestic or international land
tours, as individuals or in our own group. Cruising with friends
is always fun. We can build an information network with
first-hand reports of our experiences to help others know what
is really going on.
Writers Workshop Group
We all have a book in us, but now we have time to extract
it--the group will help ease the pain of pulling it out. If you're
interested in exploring the new realms of DTP (desk top
publishing, this will be your group.
Griffin Boosters Group
if you cared about the college teams when you were faculty,
you can still enjoy them with our retirees social group. Or
expand that to form a group for Chargers/Padres/Sockers/
Fins/Corinthians or whatever
Community Service Group
Now you have the time to give time to support those campus-
based community action groups that are important.
Motor Home Group
From general sharing of experiences and know-how to
formation of partnerships that cut costs significantly.
Theater Support Group
Discounted tickets for all Grossmont theater events. Volunteer
to work for Griffin Players; share the fun of good local San
Diego theater; charter a bus for special events in L.A.; get
blocks of tickets and save $$$$$$$.
Arts and Crafts Group
Take the obligatory "pot-throwing" course, and get your hands
dirty as you learn something about yourself through "doing" art.
Now tuition-free to you.
Photo Group
Slides and drugstore prints are OK, bur share the thrill of
making your own photo art.
Video Production Group
A new emerging art/communication form that is just beginning
to assert itself for its unique aspects. It is not film, it is not
television--it is not photography. You decide what it will be for
you.
Ham Radio Group
Roam the skywaves with your Griffin group of hams. Help
pass code tests for neophytes, share data on equipment and
installation. Hams can keep in touch when all public com-
munication is blocked or down. As in the recent San Francisco
earthquake, or the one in Mexico City. (The Soviets don't have
Ham Operators, and were really isolated in their recent seismic
catastrophes.)
Computer Group
Share the joys and frustration of VLSIC technology with others.
Share software information, hardware recommendations.
Share the cost of a Laser Printer and other shareware.
Investor's Group
Money (makes your world-go-round). This research and
clearing house may save you (or make you) many $~~
By pro-rating the costs of some of the newsletters, services
and telephone hot-lines, we can make our financial decisions
with more security, at lower cost.
Joint Venture Vacation Get-A-Way Homes
Have your "other home" in some exotic place as a shared
ownership, joint-venture.
TLC Support
Yes, Tender Loving Care Support. Without exception, we are
getting older. With families often scattered and immortality less
assured, most of us will have some hard choices to make in
the future. It would be nice to have a support group to help get
through difficult places.
Bureaucracy-bashing
At present, we'll have SHARON WOOD in the Personnel Office
to help with technical questions about retirement. She'll be our
resource for procedures, forms, suggestions and pathways
through the technical aspects of retirement.
That is just a start. We have the opportunity to continue
the collegiality we once knew, and have richer lives in
retirement.
Are You Interested?
To help us develop an active mailing list, and provide an index of interests and concerns,
please keep us up to date on your present address and become involved, ii you so desire,
in the activities on either campus. We'll welcome comments and suggestions, of course. So
that we have some idea of your interests now, please return the short survey attached ...
