FIRE SAFETY INSPECTION CHECKLIST

 

Exits

Exit routes identified. Exits clearly marked and illuminated.

At least two exits are accessible from building interiors.

Exits can be unlocked from inside, and swing in direction of exit travel.

Emergency light source provided and in working order.

Fire exits clearly marked, accessible, and unobstructed.
 

Fire Prevention

Metal waste containers provided, being used and are in good condition.

Projection room(s) clean and not used for storage of flammables.

Fire extinguisher kept in projection booth, inspection tag current.

Curtains made of non-flammable material.

"No Smoking" signs posted in restricted areas.

Fire extinguishers mounted so tops are not more than 5 feet above floor.

Electrical switch panel is labeled and access is unobstructed.

Extension cords equipped with circuit breakers, no "piggybacks."

Metal cabinets provided and used for storage of flammable material.

No flammable materials attached to ceiling.

Portable fire extinguishers mounted on walls and positions clearly marked.

Signs posted for emergency exits.

Emergency light source provided and in good working order.

Employees instructed in fire and earthquake emergency procedures.

Storage rooms and closets free of accumulated flammable waste materials.

Decorations made of non-flammable materials.

Metal waste baskets provided, being used and in good condition.

Non-combustible containers provided for disposal of oily rags.

Signs posted outside indicating fire extinguisher in classroom or office.

Hazardous Materials

Chemicals and toxic materials kept in properly labeled containers stating 'what it is and what it does.'

Containers sealed with proper lids to prevent spills or escape of vapors.

Location of MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) of materials employees use or store in their work area and records of annual employee review of those MSDS.

Non-compatible materials stored separately.

Compressed gasses chained securely to wall.

Waste material containers labeled to identify it as "waste", date of accumulation, type of hazard and address of generator.

Spill containment provided for hazardous materials when required.
