DISCIPLINE
In order to assure employee compliance with safe and health work practices, the district has adopted a disciplinary program that holds employees accountable for following rules and regulations. Discipline for safety violations is part of the district's regular disciplinary program in accordance with the district's adopted policy and negotiated employee association contracts. Disciplinary action should be administered when an employee is injured because a rule or regulation has been violated. the four-step method of progressive discipline (verbal warning, written warning, suspension, and dismissal) should also be used in safety and health matters. Documentation should be provided to conform with the district's policy. Negotiations requiring additional training or retraining or other remedial activity should be noted in the employee's record. It is important to remember that employees should not be counseled or disciplined in a negative way simply because they have had an injury or accident. Employees many times are hapless victims, the result of someone else's negligence or the result of the district's lack of maintenance or failure to train, etc. Simply because an employee is injured does not call for disciplinary action. This is another reason why injuries need to be investigated.
