Free screening of ''Rosenwald'

March 09, 2016

04:00 PM - 07:00 PM

Building 26, Room 220

A free screening of the film, "Rosenwald," the remarkable story of the late Julius Rosenwald, founder and one-time CEO of Sears Roebuck and Co. whose partnership with Booker T. Washington funded more than 5500 schools for poor, rural African-American students, is set for 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, in Building 26, Room 220 at Grossmont College. Regarded as Rosenwald's greatest accomplishment, the establishment of challenge grants seeded the creation of schools in southern states at a time when few African-American students received any public education. From 1915-1932, some 660,000 students benefitted from an initiative that truly speaks to the American Dream.

The screening is sponsored by the Cross-Cultural Studies and History departments and the Black History Committee, and funded by Student Success and Equity monies from the state.
