Jazz and Afro-Cuban Ensembles

The Grossmont College Music Department's Afro-Cuban and Jazz ensembles will perform 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 22, at Grossmnt College Building 26, Room 220.

The Grossmont Afro-Cuban Ensemble was founded by Derek Cannon in spring 2003. Since its inception, the group has performed many concerts on campus and in the surrounding communities. The group specializes in performing popular Afro-Cuban and Brazilian musical styles such as the Mambo, Cha-Cha, Bossa Nova, Samba, Merengue, and Afro-Cuban 6/8.

The Grossmont College Jazz Ensemble is a longstanding tradition in the music department.Under the direction of Dr. John Reynolds, this ensemble comprised of trumpets, trombones, saxophones, rhythm section and vocalists focuses on the varied composers of the big band genre, including Duke Ellington, Count Basie and other modern composers.  The ensemble performs regularly throughout San Diego County at public and private concerts.  

General admission tickets are $10, $8 for seniors and $5 for students.
