Past Due Fees
Students are responsible for all past due fees on their account. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure all classes are dropped by the published date in order to avoid paying for these classes. Failing to drop a class(es) does not warrant a waiver of fees. Any fees remaining on the student account after the start of the term are considered past due and subject to the collections process. A hold will be placed on student accounts with past due fees before the next term's registration.
Collection Policy
Students will be notified via email three times before the Drop for Non-Payment process of past due fees. Students will be notified if their class(es) are dropped. Students with outstanding balances will receive three additional emails, one email every two weeks, requesting payment. Before the next registration period, a hold is placed on student accounts with outstanding balances.
Any account over sixty (60) days past due may be turned over to a collection agency where credit may be adversely affected. Once the account has been submitted to a collection agency, payment must be remitted to the collection agency directly.
Withholdings for Debt
A student may not be approved for the following list of actions until all money due to the College
has been paid and verified through the College’s Cashier's Office:
1. Registration for Classes;
2. Release of Diploma;
Frequently Asked Questions
Go to Self-Service to see your outstanding student registration fees. Other outstanding misc. fees, such as library fines/fees, equipment and materials fees, financial aid repayments, etc. can be obtained from the Cashier's Office (these amounts are not posted on Self-Service):

Students may see a balance because they may have added classes after they enrolled in their payment plan or may have had insufficient funds in their bank account for payment.
Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges have used COTOP (Chancellor's Office Tax Offset Program) Collection Agency in the past. Please check those notifications as they could be from a past debt.

Students who have received financial aid, then dropped a class after the add/drop deadline, could owe the financial aid payment back. The amount of financial aid may not cover the cost of all fees.
Each student's situation is calculated depending on the timing of the dropped class(es) and their awards. Students can contact their financial aid office for more information.
Any changes students make resulting in an add or a drop need to be communicated to the Veterans Resource Center/Veterans Center to ensure their Federal VA Educational Benefits are updated.
If you added a class without notifying the Veterans Resource Center/Veterans Center of the change, you may owe the difference on your account.
In addition, you may owe a debt back to the college:
- if you dropped a class
- if you are taking a course not related to your major
- if you are repeating a class
