Ventilation Project

The District is conducting a multiphase ventilation project.

A detailed status update on the project is available for review.

On June 17, 2021, the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board adopted revised Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Prevention emergency temporary standards. The changes to the COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Standards effective June 18, 2021 included the following regarding ventilation:

Employers must evaluate ventilation systems to maximize outdoor air and increase filtration efficiency, and evaluate the use of additional air cleaning systems

Therefore, in late Spring 2021, the District hired several contractors to evaluate our ventilation system in accordance with CDC/ASHRAE recommendations.

  • As part of this project, teams of contractors are testing and, if needed, upgrading the airflow through every vent in all District buildings (62 total).
  • The work is detailed, thorough and exceeds the efforts of nearly all other colleges in our region.

This approach follows the guidelines of CDC/ASHRAE, which were upgraded during the pandemic. The District is committed to maintaining this high standard of safety.
