Government Relations
The Office of Marketing and Communications serves as the liaison for District government relations and advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels. The District Director monitors legislation in with support from the the Community College League of California (the League), American Council on Education (ACE), and the Association of Community College Trustees (ACT). The Director serves on multiple boards and committees, including the East County Chamber Government Affairs Committee and the California Assembly District 79 Education Committee, and coordinates with key regional stakeholders in government, communities, higher education, and local businesses on legislative advocacy and strategies.
The District also works collaboratively on advocacy issues with other community colleges in the region via the San Diego and Imperial Counties Community College Association (SDICCCA). SDICCCA seeks to provide a regional community college perspective on statewide issues and legislation that impacts student access, success, workforce preparation, and funding stability. SDICCCA represents over 200,000 students in the San Diego region and includes Southwestern, San Diego, Grossmont-Cuyamaca, Palomar, MiraCosta, and Imperial Valley community colleges.
