Board of Trustees Community Leadership Award


Award Purpose

The Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District Board of Trustees Community Leadership Award formally recognizes a distinguished community member who is making a significant, positive impact within the communities served by our District. This award honors individuals whose leadership and service act as a testament to the profound and lasting impact of community engagement and partnership in changing lives and shaping the future of our region.

Eligibility

Any community member who resides within the boundaries of the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District is eligible for nomination. Current District employees, students, and sitting members of the Governing Board are not eligible to receive the award.

Who Can Nominate

Nominations for this award may be submitted by members of the Governing Board, as well as members of the Foundation for Grossmont & Cuyamaca Colleges (FGCC) Board.

Criteria for Nomination

Candidates for this award will be evaluated on their demonstrated commitment and contributions to the community. A strong nominee should meet the following criteria:
  • Demonstrates exceptional leadership and dedicated service that has a tangible, positive effect on the East County region and Grossmont and Cuyamaca College students.
  • Embodies the District's core values of community engagement, equity-mindedness, student success, and lifelong learning.
  • Acts as an inspirational role model for others through their actions and accomplishments.

Selection Process

  • All nominations will be submitted to Governing Board staff for initial review of eligibility by the established deadline.
  • Governing Board staff will provide the nominations to an Ad Hoc Committee established by the Board at its regular meeting in September. The Ad Hoc Committee will review the nominations and make a recommended selection.
  • Governing Board staff will notify the nominee and arrange for recognition at a Board meeting held in November.

Award Nomination & Recognition Timeline for 2026

  • Nomination Period Opens: Tuesday, September 8, 2026
  • Establish Ad Hoc Committee: Tuesday, September 15, 2026 (September Board Meeting)
  • Nomination Deadline: Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
  • Ad Hoc Committee Review & Recommend Awardee: October 1 – October 9, 2026
  • Awardee Confirmed & Notified: Week of October 12, 2026
  • Award Presentation: Tuesday, November 10, 2026 (November Board Meeting)
